Statement

During my career in HEP, I worked in a number of laboratories in Europe before joining the Fermilab on-site community in January 2000 as a new member of the University of Notre Dame group and the D0 Collaboration. In 2005 I moved to University at Buffalo (UB), but kept close ties with the laboratory. We/UB are members of the CMS Collaboration. Our mutually-beneficial interactions with the Fermilab range from the test beam experiments to silicon detector construction at the SiDet facility and activities at the LPC. A number of UB students and postdocs have been based at the LPC prior the Covid years.

If I may briefly characterize the most important skill one acquires while being at Fermilab is the spirit of collaborative work when no task is beyond impossible. That is, the typical question is not related to the complexity of the problem at hand, but about the deadline. To a large extent, this is due to the expertise that historically accumulated at Fermilab. Along these lines, and with the help of other UEC members and the Fermilab community, I could bring in more than 35 years’ experience of research in HEP. This, in particular, would include various ways to promote younger colleagues, share our findings with wider community and advocate for fundamental science among policy makers.
