Statement

I am honored to be nominated as a candidate to serve on the Fermilab UEC. I am a professor of physics, working on the CMS experiment and leading the group at Purdue University Northwest. I have worked for over 27 years at Fermilab, as an Italian government fellow on CDF, a postdoc on DZERO and a faculty on both DZERO and CMS. While I have lived and worked at several places in my career, Fermilab remains my most favorite place to work. My research group and its activities are based at the Fermilab LPC, ranging from CMS Pixel Upgrade work, to leading Tracker/DQM shifts at the Fermilab Remote Operations Center, collaborating in Electroweak Physics Analysis, Higgs Physics and currently Physics Beyond the Standard Model.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impose several challenges to the morale of personnel working/collaborating at Fermilab in various capacities. With this opportunity to serve on the UEC, I hope to be able to contribute to one or more of the missions of the organization. I have lived on Fermilab-site for almost 5 years, visited Washington D.C. several times to promote HEP, secured federal funding for my group for over 20 years, and established a successful education and outreach program via QuarkNet. I believe that I have competent experience to advocate and contribute meaningfully to the UEC. I am also on sabbatical for the academic year 2022-2023, which provides me with a little extra time at hand.

While there has been a lot of impetus on EDI recently, I personally believe that we are all equal and need to work together. If elected, it would be my privilege to serve and work with the Fermilab community.
